#27 What have you unlearnt this year?

I know I know I'm the only person working on Christmas eve.

Hi everyone! It is insane to send this on Christmas eve, but, look, some of us are a bit obsessive.πŸ«£πŸŽ„πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

But it's a short one!

A year in review …

I tried to write a "year in review" and two things quickly became apparent:

  1. I'm spectacularly boring and if I wrote a proper year in review you would all know it and that sounds less fun that I'd like!

  2. Oh dear lord my taste in music is certifiably terrible and let's not subject anyone to that.

Plus, when I reflected on the year it wasn't new things that stood out – it was all the things I thought I knew, but turned out to be less true than expected. In the carnage of 2024, there were a lot of things I had to unlearn. Three, in particular, really stood out

Bring on 2025!

I've been doing some 2025 planning and there's some cool stuff coming!

I am most excited about releasing my website redesign (Jimmy is growing up and I could not be more excited). But there's also a ton of events starting to find their way onto the calendar during the first quarter of the year including:

  • A chat with Iurii Gomon (Passionate Business Analyst)

  • A webinar with Adrian Reed (Blackmetric solutions)

  • And I'm presenting again at BALife in April! Working title for my talk is "Requirements are breadcrumbs: Watch out for birds!" πŸ˜…πŸ¦†

  • Along with a few other local events!

I'll also bring back Office Hour in February (already have some guests lined up), and of course, more writing!

That’s a wrap for 2024!

Thank you once again for giving me your email address, engaging with me, sharing your thoughts with me. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate it! You're the very best!!!

So I hope you have an absolutely cracker break! May you have time to relax, have a nice drink or three. I hope you eat cheese (because of course), read a book, catch up with friends and family, and get to sleep in!

Or whatever it is that recharges your batteries.

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on this (or anything else), so do reply to this email, DM me on LinkedIn, or send me a letter via pigeon.

I cannot tell you how much I like hearing from y'all!

And until next time, stay excellent! πŸ’–
