#43 Say what you mean!

How fancy words make you sound anything but!

Hi Everyone!

I’m beginning to become seriously concerned that all the evidence suggests that I actually do get frequently wound up about random and inconsequential things – contrary to my prior claims on the issue. I mean, I have literally been publishing the evidence to condemn me.

I’m not entirely sure what to do with this realisation especially as it is 9:21pm on Monday evening and I certainly don’t have time to write a different article for this brief.

So, here I am, just sitting in the discomfort of a new and extremely unwelcome thought. But, as with most things, the best thing to do is to pick oneself up, and just box on?

So … how about a rant about jargon? Anyone?

Yes, I read a LinkedIn post that glorified lingo. Yes, it annoyed me. Yes, I wrote an article about it. Yes, I am apparently a curmudgeon (should I buy a walking stick and really lean into the persona at this point?)

But all kidding aside, the words we use are so important. We can get so enamoured by the idea of impressing our colleagues with our insider knowledge that we forget that most of the people we are communicating with have no idea (and frankly, couldn’t give a toss) about our jargon and fancy words.

Which is why it is such a huge disservice to everyone to promote “learning the lingo” as a way to build your credibility and career.

Anyway, article live on jimmy.consulting or through the button:

As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on this (or anything else), so do reply to this email, DM me on LinkedIn, or send me a letter via pigeon.

I cannot tell you how much I like hearing from y'all!

And until next time, stay excellent! 💖
